Zamfara State Governor Dauda lawal has informed the Federal Government that all the existing earth dams in the state requires rehabilitation to provide for mire access water to the Livestock.
The Governor also expressed the need for further expansion of the dam facilities to enhance livestock productivity in the state.
Lawal was speaking when he paid a familiarization visit to the newly created ministry of for livestock at its corporate headquarters Abuja.
The Governors who congratulate the Minister for the creation of the Ministry in July 2024 expressed hope that the Minister and his team will visit Zanfara and assess thing and find ways of further collaboration.
According to the statement by the Governor’s spokesman Sulaiman Bala Idris, “We are here today to congratulate you on the establishment of this new ministry, which, I believe, is timely. Additionally, we aim to foster a strong collaboration between our state and the ministry.
“Honorable Minister, as you know, Zamfara is an agrarian society. That is why our motto is, ‘Farming is our pride.’
While assuring the Minister of the willingness of the state to ensure effective collaboration with the ministry, he said the state has enough space to support the collaboration.
The Minister thanked the Governor for being the first sitting executive Governor to pay a working visit to the Ministry since it’s establishment in 2024.
“Since the ministry was established, we have not received a visit from an executive governor who feels the need to hear what we have to offer.
“I want to assure you that we are prepared to collaborate with you to transform and address your concerns in the livestock sector in Zamfara.
“The livestock sector has long operated informally. We will modernize this sector through various strategic programs.
“Your Excellency, Zamfara State will be the pilot state to showcase the agenda of the new ministry. With this collaboration, we will turn the Gidan jaja in Zamfara into a mini agricultural hub.” He said.
