Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State has called on the federal government to redeploy more security personals in the North Western part of the country in order to end the deadly armed banditry going on in the region.
The Givernor who made the call during a BBC hausa live chat described the resurgence of fresh attacks on innocent people of Zamfara State as worrisome abd unfortunate.
He said the presidential order for military crackdown at Katsina should be extended to Zamfara and indeed entire part of the region so that collectively the security challenges facing the area can be squarely addressed.
He emphasized that, the security challenges confronting the entire North Western part of Nigeria shall not be seen as purely a federal or state government affair but rather a collective fight to finish adding that, unless people considered themselves to be part of the problem, the situation will be hard to be contained.
.
He attributed the unending crimes in the North West to the activities of the informants who take advantage of their closeness with the people to be sharing information on who to Target for attack or for ransom.
He cited example of one old rich person who take advantage of his poverty situation to be sending letters of notice of attacks to people in Zamfara state adding that, without the activities and full cooperation of the informants, armed banditry would have become a thing of history in Zamfara State.
He called for the federal government to come up with more effective measures that will end these deadly activities of the bandits and also engage the state governors in the North West with more realistic arrangement so that they can participate in making sure that, the security situation in the region is managed.
