Suspected gunmen have abducted over twenty women after launching several attacks in various communities of Gusau the state capital on Sunday.
Some of the villages attacked included Geba, Tsakuwa, Gidan Kada, Gidan Kaura and many other villages in Gusau.
Residents of these villages told BBC Hausa service that, the gunmen after invading the villages, killed many people, set valuable properties ablaze and abducted many women.
One of the residents of these villages told BBC Hausa service that, “you see they have abducted (10) women in Kura, (9) at Bayauri, they have also invaded another village called Gana, and they have abducted (7) women from there they moved to a village called Duma and abducted (7) other persons and all these happened on Saturday night”.
Another source said the attacks resulted to the killing of eight persons while many households have fled out of their homes.
Information has it that majority of the people in these villages have started living their communities to Gusau the state capital for safety.
Another source told BBC Hausa service that people are living their villages to the Damba area also in Gusau.
“if you go to Damba you see women and children including those with pregnancy, and they have no food to eat and where they sleep in Damba is not conducive and the cold weather is not favorable to them. The condition looks as if there is no government in place” the source added.
Zamfara Commissioner for Information Ibrahim Dosara confirmed the incidence at Geba to BBC Hausa service and noted that three people were injured but noted that as soon the gunmen invaded these villages security agencies were mobilized for intervention.
He denied the allegation by some residents of the affected villages that, security agencies have not intervened saying soldiers have gone to the Geba village and chased away the bandits.
