Member representing Shinkafi at the State House of Assembly, Hon. Muhammad G. Ahmad was shot dead by some suspected armed bandits on Tuesday.
He was killed along Zamfara border with Katsina State around 6:00pm on Tuesday after the armed bandits laid ambush against his vehicle on the busy Zamfara-Zaria highway and opened fire indiscriminately at his vehicle.
According to the Deputy House Leader Nasir Lawal Bungudu the late lawmaker was travelling to Kano to drop his child who was flying to Sudan on Wednesday through Aminu Kano International Airport by 10:00am when the incident occurred.
“The son of the lawmaker and one other person in the car survived the attack as none of them sustain any injury,” Nasir Lawal added.
According to another source, the lawmaker decided to embark in the evening hour trip intending to follow the convoy of the Kano State Governor who was in Zamfara for the defection of Governor Bello Matawalle but mistakenly drove ahead of them and only for him to get trapped in to the ambush attack that claimed his life.
Another unverified source also said, two of the officials vehicles of the Kano state Governor were also attacked by the suspected bandits.
His funeral prayer was conducted in Gusau on Wednesday by 11:00am amidst hundreds of relations and sympathizers.
Governor Bello Matawalle personally attended the funeral prayers alongside some powerful politicians in the state including former Governor of the state Mamuda Shinkafi and a former federal lawmaker Aminu Sani Jaji.
Until his death, Hon. G. Ahmad was the longest ranking member of the state House of Assembly and Chairman House Committee on Finance and Appropriation.
