REMEMBERING LATE DR. MUSA BARAU GAMJI.

By

Anas Sani Anka

It was a shocking experience to most of us residing at Damba Housing Estate as we lost a valuable friend, gentleman to the highest esteem, academic ally, and also an excellent communicator Dr. Musa Barau Gamji.

He used to be an ardent member of our forum at the estate and himself and many of us met at night to wild away some gist and funs before we retired to bed.

Yesterday Saturday the 1st day of March 2025 at around 11:00pm he was the one who put us on the alert that it is time for us move home and stay a while with the family.

We exchanged good night pleasantries and all of us departed not knowing it was my last moment with him on this world.

He died today (Sunday) while observing Salatul Tarawih in congregation inside the Imam Malik Jumuat Mosque Damba Housing Estate Gusau.

Reliably, I was told that he was about to observe (Raka’atul Witr) when he suddenly noticed changes in his body system and asked one of our elderly brothers behind him to aid him out of the mosque.

Before the last Witr Raka’at was observed plenty of people said they only heard him reciting “Lailaha Illa Lah Muhammadu Rasululah Sallah Lahu Alaihu Wasalam” in a repeated form, and before he was rushed out of the mosque to the hospital he has passed away.

Throughout today he has been in the mosque together with other people trying to fix the sound system of the mosque which has defaulted for some days now.

Dr. Gamji as he is popularly called is a gentleman whose demise will surely leave a vacuum in our memory.

In Damba Housing Estate everyone says the most positive site of his story, God-fearing, hardworking, peace loving and highly accommodating.

He is currently a lecturer at the Department of Mass Communication Ahmadu Bello University Zaria and before his departure to ABU he was an active member of Nigerian Union of Journalists and also an editor at the News and Current Affairs Department of Zamfara Radio and Television Services.

I could remember last year in February 2024 he chaired one of the hybrid sessions of 1st International Conference organized by the department of Mass Communication ABU Zaria where he moderated the papers we presented at the Conference.

We are going to miss Dr. Barau Gamji as a reliable neighbor, Academic ally and Professional colleague in the media industry.

His funeral prayer has been slated for 1:00am on Monday the 3rd day of March 2025 at the Imam Malik Jumuat Mosque Damba Housing Estate Gusau.

May Allah forgive his shortcomings, grant him eternal rest and give his family the fortified to bear his exit.

We missed you, Dr. Barau Gamji until we come.
