Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara has renewed his lamentations when he told Arise TV that his administration inherited only a total of N4M from the treasury in 2023.
He stated that he inherited the state in a total mess, having almost all sectors of development in a malfunctioning status.
He said he inherited a backlog of salaries for four and a half months which were not paid by his predecessor.
He lamented that, specifically that when he took over judiciary alone had a liability of N1.6B unsettled, West African Examination Council (WAEC) N1.6B, National Examination Council (NECO) N1.4B, as well as so many other challenges.
He stated that the first thing he did when he assumed office was to settle the backlog of the salaries and also enter into a kind of negotiation with the WAEC and NECO so that Zamfara citizens can sit for examinations.
He also said the idea behind the negotiation he entered with the WAEC and NECO was to enable those that sat for the examinations previous times to be able to access their results and proceed further with their education.
The Governor also stated that Zamfara was faced with a crisis of water shortage which he had to fought head-on in three days and resolved.
