Zamfara State Police Command has refuted the figures of dead persons in the Monday and Tuesday Attacks issued to Thunder Blowers Online News Medium where it reported that over one hundered people have been killed in a two days separate attacks in some villages of Talatar Mafara and Maru local government areas of the state.
In a statement signed by the state police command Public Relations Officer SP Shehu Mohammed said,, “on 2nd and 3rd June, 2020, six (6) villages namely :- Tungar Malan, Manyan Karaje, Tungar Arne, Dangodon Maiyakane, Dangodon Mai Masallaci and Boleke in Maru LGA were attacked by suspected armed bandits with intend to rustle cows. When confronted by members of the milia group known as “YAN SAKAI”, they started shooting sporadically, thereby resulting to the death of fifteen (15) people, while seven (7) people sustained gun shot wound and rushed to the hospital for treatment”.
The state police spoke persons furthers said “In a related incident, On 3rd June, 2020, Bandits attacked and killed six (6) people from four (4) villages namely:- Gidan Dan Kani, Tungar lauti, Inwala and Dangodo villages in Talata Mafara LGA. The victims were attacked and killed while coming back from funeral prayer of the above deceases. Five (5) people sustained gun shot wound and are currently receiving treatment”.
The statement urged members of the media to always wait patiently till accurate information from the security agencies are issued before going to the press.
It could be recall that, early morning today, this medium interviewed state house of Assembly member representing Mafara constituency and also relate the audio conversation between one eye witness and member representing Maru constituency at the state assembly where both sources confirm that, over 60 dead bodies were burried from the constituencies they represented in the two day attacks. The figure which the police commanded have contested.
Shehu Muhammad said, normalcy has been restored in all the affected areas.
