It has been a confusing situation with the residents of Moriki Emirate in Zamfara State as the popular bandit’s leader Bello Turji enforces stringent conditions over them.
Since Sunday morning there have been public outcry on the social media by the people of Moriki on the circumstances of the threat enforces on them by Bello Turji even as public continue to lend their voices over what is expected to do abort the threat by the bandit kingpin.
A source reliably informed this medium that, the bandit kingpin had complaint about the harassment faced by his people from the military operatives based in Moriki.
The source said, Turji complaint of military killing of a lot of his livestock and frustration he and his team suffered as a result of a constant military operations along the Moriki axis of the state.
Dissatisfied with the development, the source said the bandit kingpin sent a message of threat to the people of Moriki insisting that the military base stationed along Moriki area has to be dismantled as a condition to avoid his deadly attacks.
He also said in alternative the sum of N50M has to be paid by the entire people of Moriki as compensation for the livestock he has lost to the military operations.
Another source said it was resolved among the residents of the area that each of the households has been tasked to pay the sum of (N14,000) as contribution to raising the amount proposed by the bandit kingpin.
He stated that, the fund-raising has since started even though the Emirate council and all other authorities linked to the government had refused to approve such a decision.
“The Emirate council and all other authorities are not supporting the idea of contributing money to give to the bandits, but the community people had insisted that it was the best option for them to leave in peace”.
Numerous people believe that raising N50M to give to the bandit leader is like people are supporting the Banditry enterprise and that instead of doing that, they should have used the money to procure weapons and protect themselves against the excesses of the armed bandits.
But a public Affairs commentator, Ahmad Abubakar Maradun believes that, regardless of who is not in support of the idea, they should raise the money and procure the weapons to defend themselves instead of given the money to the bandit kingpin.
“Islam and indeed the constitution of Nigeria has empowered the citizens when it comes to “self-defense” and that since the government cannot protect them they should get retired security operatives to train them how to operate guns and defend themselves”.
“If any strata of the governments stopped them from procuring the arms then they should accuse that same government of having collaboration with Bello Turji”.
Now it is open to see how the whole drama will unfold as the enforcement of the protection levy remains enforced and opinions of the people are splinted over what to do to abort the murderous threat of the bandit kingpin.
Effort to speak to the police spokesperson ASP Yazeed as at the time of filing this piece remains unsuccessful.
