Suspected armed bandits in their large numbers had killed over twenty persons in Janbako community of Maradun local government area of Zamfara state.
The attack which was launched in the early hours of Saturday was carried out when some members of vigilante mobilized to offer to reinforcement for the people of Sikkida town who had earlier been attacked by the bandits.
A source who confided in this medium stated that the vigilante had wanted to go and offer reinforcement against the heinous attack by the bandits unknown to them that the bandits had laid ambush along the driving routes and opened fire indiscriminately on them.
“So far, we have counted twenty-seven persons who were killed as a result of the attack, and they were buried around 4:00pm Saturday according to the Islamic rites”.
“As we were told, some people are still searching for their relations who might have been involved in the attack and most likely, some more corpses might be brought again” the source added.
Zamfara police spokesman DSP Yazid Muhammad had confirmed the occurrence of the incident but insisted that police are still gathering information as it relates to the number of those killed or injured in the attack.
