Residents of Juyi Village in Kekun Waje ward of Bungudu local government areas of Zamfara State  have mobilzed in their hundreds for the second time on Thursday to block the popular Gusau-Sokoto highway for five hours protesting government lack of concern for their security.

According to a security source at the scene of the protest the residents of the community were attacked in the early hours of  on Tuesday and started shooting sporadically leading to the death of five persons.

He said the people of the community alleged that, what baffled them was during the encounter with the bandits they informed the soldiers stationed at some nearby settlements but they refused to respond till the bandits killed and destroyed public properties in the area.

The source added that the tragedy that befalls them on Wednesday angered them to move out of their communities and block same Tashar Abu where the last week protest by Bingi communities took place.

He said, after several pleadings by the Emir of Bungudu and other stakeholders, the protestors were forcefully dispersed by the armed security operatives in order to give way for commutters to continue with their journey.

He told this medium that the protestors were teargassed  and pursued off the highway by the security agencies a circumstance that forced them to use their locally made weapons to resist their eviction from the highway by the security operatives.

He confirmed that a police officer was injured during the encounter.

Police could not be reached for comment as at the time of filing this report.
