Zamfara State government has expressed its deepest concern on the poor quality of Bungudu-Nahuche-Kyambarawa road project executed by an indigenous construction company Nahuche Construction Company Limited and ask the contractor to take immediate steps of re-fixing the road.
The immediate past government of Abdulazeez Yari Abubakar awarded the reconstruction of the 21.6 kilometers road to one of the indigenous company owned by one of its party member Alh Ibrahim Nabature Nahuche.
The joint delegation from the state ministry for works and directorate of housing and town planning visited the road on Wednesday to see the level of its deterioration after receiving series of complaints from the residents of the area who are the major end-users of the road.
During the visit, the committee observed with serious concern how the contractor poorly erected the bridge-pillars which allow for more cracks that raised fear among the commuters plying the road
They have also described as unprofessional the deliberate refusal of the contractor to demolish the old bridge and clear all rushes while constructing the new one.
They insisted, that single unprofessional act is responsible for the frequent water blockage since the rain falls do not have adequate space to pass through the new bridge.
The delegation has also observed that, as at now, the bridge has developed some signs of failure and constitute threat to the safety of its majority of end-users.
On the part of the road, the delegation observed that, major part of the road has been damaged due to poor nature of the project execution lamenting that even with that condition of the road, the contractor is yet to hand over the project officially to the state government.
Speaking shortly after the assessment, the State Commissioner for Works Eng. Ibrahim Isah Mayana said in the spirit of natural justice, state government would invite the contractor and pay another visit alongside his team so that, together they can be able to see things visibly and agreed to what step is to be taken.
