The Chairman of Zamfara state governorship election petition tribunal justice Cordelia N. Ogadi has wed into a disagreement between senior lawyers in court during proceeding.
The disagreement started when a Senior Advocate of Nigeria Mr. Usman Sule (SAN) called the attention of the tribunal to the refusal of one of the defense counsel Chief Solomon Akuma (SAN) to return the exhibits he requested for during cross examination.
Sule insisted that it is against the rule of the tribunal for the counsel to be holding an exhibit he requested for after he finishes his cross examination.
He pointed accusing fingers on Chef Solomon Akuma (SAN) for jotting some figures from the exhibit he is supposed to return to the tribunal since he has finished his cross examination.
But Mr. Akuma stood to object to the statement made against him by Mr. Usman Sule (SAN) saying in his over (35) years of practice he has never been accused of doing wrong thing either in the area of legal practice of elsewhere.
He asked the tribunal to force Mr. Usman O. Sule (SAN) to withdraw his statement and apologize.
But Sule stood his ground that the learned (SAN) Solomon Akuma knew what to do with an exhibit he requested for and that what attracted his attention was when he saw the Senior Advocate jotting figures from the document.
After heated arguments, the Chairman of the tribunal wed into the matter by asking the counsels to behave themselves as Senior lawyers or else she will report them to the appropriate bodies.
“Gentlemen you are the Senior members of the Barr. and you are supposed to behave your self in such a manner that is descent and if you continue this way I will write to the appropriate bodies to report you”.
“The judge further rule that “the failure is that of tribunal Secretariat by refusing to retrieve the documents earlier requested for by the defense counsel since he has finished using it”.
“Gentlemen on behalf of the tribunal we apologize for the failure of the tribunal Secretariat to retrieve the exhibit earlier issued to counsel”.
Mr Usman Sule (SAN) later withdrew his statement made and apologize to both the tribunal and his colleague Chief Solomon Akuma (SAN).
The matter was finally led to rest.
