The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal has declared that armed banditry can be ended within two weeks if there is demonstration of genuine political will on the side of the Government.
Dauda Lawal who stated this when he featured on the Channel’s TV show Sunrise Daily on Tuesday, insisted that the identity of these bandits and their locations are well known; their atrocities can be ended if the government demonstrated genuine political will.
“If we are committed, if we are serious, we can take care of the situation within two weeks maximum”.
He stated that if other terrorist groups like Niger Delta militants have a reason to rise against the state, what about the armed bandits?
He noted that Governors from the region where armed banditry is becoming dominant had become helpless because they do not have control of the army, the police, and NSCDC and therefore could not do otherwise.
He stated that because of the tension, his administration has opted for the setting up of Community Protection Guards as an alternative to ensuring that the excesses of armed bandits is managed.
