The president of UEFA, Alexander Ceferin, has announced that UEFA will honor Ronaldo at the 2024–25 Champions League draw by presenting him with a “special award” in recognition of his record as the competition’s top scorer. With 183 Champions League games played, the Portugal star has scored 140 goals, creating a record that seems nearly impossible for anyone else to match.

On Thursday, August 29, at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco, UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin will present the special prize during the 2024–25 UEFA Champions League draw ceremony. In a statement released on Tuesday, the UEFA website said that Ronaldo’s unmatched accomplishments in the UEFA Champions League—including his 140 goals in 183 games—had completely changed the course of the competition’s history. Being the first player to score in three different finals and a five-time winner, this honor recognizes his lasting impact and establishes a very high standard for upcoming football players.

“UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin will present a special award to Cristiano Ronaldo, the all-time leading goalscorer in the UEFA Champions League, in honor of his incredible legacy in the most prestigious competition in the world. This recognition solidifies Ronaldo’s status as one of the greatest footballers of all time and highlights his unparalleled success on the biggest stage in European club football. Ronaldo’s influence on the UEFA Champions League will be remembered for generations to come.

Cristiano Ronaldo will be honored at the inaugural 2024/25 UEFA Champions League 36-team league phase draw ceremony in Monaco on August 29. With 183 games, Ronaldo has scored 140 goals in the competition, surpassing third-place Robert Lewandowski and Lionel Messi. His impressive goal-scoring feats are expected to endure, providing a challenge for future generations to surpass.

At the August 29 draw ceremony, Ronaldo will get his award. After spectacular stints at Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Juventus, he has hinted that he may retire at Nassr, therefore it is improbable that he will score another goal in the Champions League. Ronaldo’s legacy in football is already cemented, regardless of whether he scores in the Champions League again. His impact on the sport will be remembered for years to come.
