Some suspected bandits have blocked the popular Sokoto-Gusau highway for close to five hours on Monday, forcing over five hundred vehicles to stay in action for some hours before the road is cleared.
According to a source, the bandits started their operation around 6:00am and they mounted their road block in between Bimasa from Tureta to Lambar Bakura and it took the security forces hours to be able to get the road cleared for the commuters.
He also stated that, several attempts were made to force the bandits out of the highway but could not succeed until after around 11:00am.
It could be recalled another group of bandits attacked members of union of communication from Zamfara who were coming from a wedding ceremony in Tambuwal and abducted thirty persons among them.
According to our source, the road was later cleared at around 11:30am and the obstructed vehicles were allowed to move and proceed with the journey to their respective destinations.
Another source who passed through the road at around 2:00pm informed this medium that there are heavy armed security men deployed to manage the highway since it was opened around 11:00am.
