The Chairman of Zamfara Cycle a non-governmental organization has alleged that, the failure of Zamfara State Commissioner for Finance Rabiu Garba to release the approved N7m was responsible for the inability of the Directorate of Scholarship to commence the screening of Zamfara students for disbursement of local scholarship.
The Chairman of the cycle Dr. Al’Ameen Chafe who declared this during a TV show programme of Thunder Blowers said, for the past seven months an approval for the release of N7m to Directorate of Scholarship for the commencement of the screening exercise was issued by the Governor but the Commissioner has refused to release the money.
He called the State Governor to pursue the Commissioner to release the money so that accurate data capturing of Zamfara students can start in earnest.
On the sponsorship of Zamfara indigents to study their first degree abroad the Chairman said, their organization has been against such decision saying instead, the government should have to empower them to study their first degree in Nigerian Universities and use the remaining savings to support the early take-off of the state University Talatar Mafara.
Dr. Chafe also suggested that, instead of spending huge amount of money to these 200 students, government should have selected 100 indigents with first degree and sponsor them to pursue their second degree and later absorb them in to the state University for them to add in to the University’s human resource strength.
