The member representing Maru North at the Zamfara State House of Assembly Yusuf Alhassan Kanoma has confirmed that some of his colleagues have collected thousands of United States Dollars from the impeached Deputy Governor Barr. Mahadi Aliyu Gusau.
Kanoma who stated that the purpose of issuing the dollars was to frustrate the impeachment of the former Deputy Governor said the PDP lawmaker who distributed the dollars knew very well that he cannot confront him for the bribery.
He confirmed that some members who collected the dollars later retired the money to the state anti-corruption agency and secure receipt, while some went away with it without declaring.
He said though the money was issued for bribery, the members may not be punished because they did not request for the dollars, but it was issued to them at the volition of the former Deputy Governor.
“If I was given the dollar I will collect it and make sure that the Deputy Governor is impeached as well, I don’t mind because this is the way of teaching him a lesson”.
“Our happiness is that the intention of given out the dollars has been defeated because it was meant to frustrate the impeachment process but eventually Mahadi Aliyu Gusau is impeached” Kanoma added
