Some suspected gunmen attacked the popular Jibia-Katsina road and abducted some people including a military soldier and his family on Tuesday.

According to the BBC Hausa service report monitored by this medium on Wednesday, “those people abducted were coming from Shimfida village on their way to Jibia before they were kidnapped by the suspected  gunmen.

A source who spoke to the BBC Hausa on confidence said, “any resident of Shimfida village that wanted to come to Jibia or Gurbin Bore can fall victim of abduction by the suspected gunmen”.

“One can be abducted or killed by these bandits regardless of being male or female hence these bandits do not care”.

On Tuesday around 12:00pm a truck was carrying a tree on its way to Jibia from Gurbi, the suspected gunmen stopped the car, abducted the driver and all its passengers including the women boarded in the truck.

The source also added, “on Tuesday some suspected gunmen living in Zamfara forest blocked the main Gurbin Bore-Jibia road and opened fire on some vehicles plying the road including those Mass Transit from Katsina (KSTA)

He added that, “amongst the vehicle stopped on that Tuesday operation included a Golf Car which conveyed a soldier and his family who were travelling back to Katsina for an annual  leave after he was shot by the gunmen in one of the operation.

The source also told BBC Hausa service that he was once abducted by gunmen  and spent close to a month with his eyes closed till when his family raised money and paid 2 million naira as his ransom.

He noted further that contrary to the claim by the government that it has deployed adequate soldiers to take charge of the security of most of the affected areas, “the situation is not true hence they have not seen soldiers in their domains”.

He said though there are some soldiers deployed along Batsari, and Jibia roads, according to him “their deployment has not changed anything since the killings have not stopped”.
