The Director General of the National Youth Service Corp Brigadier General OO Nafiu has assured the corp members posted to Zamfara state that they would not be posted to areas where adequate security assessments have not been conducted.
The DG gave the assurance while addressing the 2025 Batch “A” Stream I Corps Members at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Gusau, Zamfara State on Wednesday.
The DG also charged corps members deployed to Zamfara State to respect the culture and values of their host communities.
According to the NYSC DG, the primary objective of the scheme is to promote national integration and unity, and urged the corps members to take full advantage of their posting to learn the language and enhance their knowledge about the state.
General Nafiu, however, advised the corps members to as part of their personal safety read all security tips, obtain official permission before traveling, in addition to avoiding night travels.
In his words, “I am here to encourage you that NYSC is all about national integration, development, and building a viable youth corps that can successfully take over the leadership of this country and enhance it in the nearest future.
“I believe in you. I believe that for you to have come to this stage, you have all it takes to succeed in life, and you have all it takes to take up the responsibilities of leadership. Make your parents and the nation proud. I charge you to stay put, don’t put pressure to yourself to redeploy. Stay here, enjoy Zamfara State, learn the language and acquire additional skill.
“The Service year is intended to inculcate leadership skills and other values that will help you in your lifetime in the nearest future,” he said.
Brigadier General Nafiu further encouraged the corps members to take their service year seriously and make good use of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development
