Zamfara State Police Command in collaboration with other security agencies in the state have announced their preparedness to contain all security challenges capable of causing hitches in the forthcoming state bye election for Bakura which was slated to be conducted on the 5th of December 2020.

This was made known by the Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, CP Usman Nagogo while flanked by other security heads in the state comprising Nigerian Army, Department of State Security, Immigration Service, NSCDC, FRSC and the State Correctional Centre.

CP Nagogo informed that, all that are needed to make the election free, fair and secure were provided as the security of INEC staffers and their electoral materials including voters has been  taken with all seriousness by the security agencies in the state.

He further assured that adequate security would be provided in order to ensure peaceful conduct of the election especially being that, Bakura was one of the volatile areas experiencing remnant of bandit activities and other security challenges.

Distancing security agencies from political involvements, the Commissioner further said, “We are not politicians and could not be involved in any part of political runnings, therefore, we are only expected to provide equal treatments to all law abiding citizens in terms of securing the society”.

He announced that, security agencies under the leadership of the state Commissioner of Police, have summoned all politicians that were preparing to participate in the forthcoming bye-election for signing of agreements aimed at ensuring peaceful conduct of the election.

The Commissioner also warned that, “There is going to be restrictions of movements like any other election with a view to creating conducive atmosphere throughout the election period.

He warned security personnel to be deployed for the election to strictly operate within the guidelines and rules of engagement, adding that, “Rights to vote, rights to count and the rights for election monitoring must be protected.
