Zamfara State Governor Bello Matawalle has directed traditional Institutions in the state to henceforth seek approval from the state Government before awarding and conferring traditional titles.
According to the statement by the Governor’s spokesperson Mal. Zailani Bappa, “all Emirs, Senior District Heads and District Heads in the state are hereby directed to officially seek permission from the State Government before conferring traditional titles to anyone”.
The directive becomes necessary according to Bappa in order to checkmate indiscriminate award of chieftaincy titles.
“Henceforth, no Emir, Senior District Head or District Head must appoint anybody into any traditional office without securing official permission and clearance from the state Government” Governor Matawalle directed.
Bappa added that, “compliance to this directive is now mandatory and failure to adhere to it will attract serious reprimand from the state government”.
He further stated that, this directive comes after a traditional title was unilaterally awarded to one bandit leader, Ado Alieru by the Emirate of Birnin Yandoto.
