The Director General of Zamfara Geographic Information System (ZAGIS) Malam Hassan Idris has declared that, he has set a target of N5billion naira for the year 2021 as part of his commitment to help the current administration boost it’s Internally Generated Revenue.

Mr Hassan who spoke shortly after defending the 2021 proposed budget estimate for ZAGIS said the only constraint that will hinder him from generating N5b for the year 2021 is if the state house of assembly failed to approve his proposed appropriation of N700 million naira.

“I have set a target of N5b for ZAGIS, and it is achievable only if the state assembly can graciously approve the proposed N700m and for the Governor to help ensure that the money is released to us in time”

Asked how possible is his target, Mr Hassan said, “there are estimated 16,000 records of those that have registered titles but for years they have not been paying their ground rent and if only we can set a target for everyone with registered title to pay in 2021 it will amount to government generating huge millions of naira.

“We have proposed and subject to the approval of the Governor, each citizen with registered title for a residential house to pay a token of N5000, and those with Commercial and Farmlands N30,000, industrial N70,000 per annum. The Government will realize a lot of money, and we hope we will get the backing of the Governor in this regard” Mr Hassan added.

The DG also said, part of his intended reforms was to ensure that the overlapping functions between his agency and Directorate of Land has been addressed hence issuance of Land titles and certification should be the primary responsibility of his agency.

He said with the level of support his agency is receiving from the Governor his plans to make the agency one of the vibrant revenue generating stock for the government is visible noting that one of the best effort Governor Matawalle made to assist the agency to function very effectively was the approval of the law establishing the agency.

He called on the state assembly to support the effort of the Governor in making the agency work effectively by approving its proposed budgetary estimate so that the much expected reforms targeted can start in 2021 fiscal year.
