There were palpable fear among the residents of Anka and Jangebe when some group of gunmen suspected to be armed bandits blocked the popular Mayanchi-Anka road at around 4:00pm on Tuesday.
According to an eyewitness, the suspected bandits were passing through their cattle route around Yar Gezoji when they decided to block the road and attempted to perfect abduction of passengers plying the road.
The eyewitness who does not want to be named said, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm the bandits refused to release the road until after the army came with strong force to fight them head-on.
He said it took the military up to an hour, exchanging fire with the bandits before the road was cleared for the commuters.
He said based on the information they have received in Anka the bandits suffered heavy casualties before the road was later cleared.
Effort to speak to the police spokesperson in Zamfara SP Shehu Muhammad was not successful as at the time of filing this report.
