Zamfara State Board of Internal Revenue Service has declared that, it has secure data of (3,000) individuals who save minimum of a million naira and above in their accounts and will soon be sent demand notice to come and pay tax to the state government.
Chairman of the board Ali Akilu Dama who stated this in Gusau on Thursday In a special interview session with Thunder Blowers said, the Personal Income Tax Act has empowered states board of internal revenue to collect tax from individual earnings starting from one million naira and above.
“If you save one million naira in your personal account of a bank you must dash out something for gift, personal donation, you pay salary and other things all these things mention attracts payment of tax”.
He also said, those who collect inheritance must also be able to pay tax because of Personal Income Tax Act has allowed that income realize from collection of inheritance must be subjected to payment of tax.
He said they have already started dispatching letters of demand notice to these (3,000) individuals who hide money inside their saving accounts to as a matter of urgency come and pay tax before the board secure a court order and freeze their accounts.
“As for those among the three thousand individual account holders that we cannot reach out to, we will write to their respective banks to provide us access to them so that they can be called to come and pay tax to the state government.
Dama said with the economic reality on the ground, the board need to be renewing measures aimed at making sure that the appropriate revenue die for the state is collected and remitted to the state.
