Zamfara state has announced the banning of political meetings and rallies indefinitely until the security situation improves.
State Commissioner for Information Ibrahim Magaji Dosara announced this in a statement issued on Friday.
He said, “Government at this point has found it necessary to introduce some stringent measures that may inadvertently hurt everybody. However, the measures are targeted at curtailing the recent excesses of the bandits, with the overall objective of crippling their capacity to attack our communities”.
“Furthermore, government has suspended all political activities in the state until further notice. Political meetings and gatherings at individual residences are also banned with immediate effect, henceforth.”
Some Communities and Highways in the state are currently experiencing the resurgence of Banditry activities, which led to the killing of innocent individuals including security operatives at different points.
The statement adds that the state government is saddened by the Negative Development and regret any inconvenience the decision might cause the public.
It also sympathizes with the families of the innocent citizens killed and security operatives keeping peace in the state.
The Zamfara State Government enjoin citizens to adhere to the new security measures, as Security personnel have been directed to deal ruthlessly with anyone found violating the restriction order.
