Zamfara state Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has adjourned to tomorrow (Friday) the 7th of July 2023 for the commencement of hearing in respect of the case filed by the APC and Governor Bello Matawalle challenging the election of Governor Dauda Lawal.
Counsel to former Governor Bello Matawalle Jacob Onunwe Ochidi (SAN) leading other teams of lawyers asked for adjournment on the ground that the lead counsel Usman O. Sule (SAN) could not catch up with his scheduled flight to Sokoto as at yesterday.
Ochidi stated further that, he was coming into the matter newly, and he ought to have studied the case file before he can lead the team but noted that since the lead counsel is arriving at Sokoto today (Thursday) the tribunal should give one day adjournment to enable the Mr. Usman O. Sule arrived at Sokoto and proceed with his case.
He noted that in the event the lead counsel could not arrive today, he would study the case file clearly and also prepare to present the line of witnesses for cross-examination tomorrow.
Counsels to the parties in the matter do not object to the request by the APC/Matawalle’s counsel but only states that, 6th of July 2023 should be captured part of the (14) days allocated for the APC.
It could be recalled that APC has planned to present (35) witnesses to the tribunal, exclusive of those to be subpoenaed.
