To improve the nation’s basic and secondary education standards, the federal government has launched the Federal Education Quality Assurance Service Cloud Server, or FEQAS-collect, an electronic quality assurance system. This system aims to monitor and evaluate the performance of schools nationwide, providing valuable data to identify areas for improvement and implement necessary reforms. The FEQAS-collect will help ensure that all students have access to high-quality education and resources.
The platform was formally launched yesterday at a ceremony conducted at the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Digital Resource Centre in Abuja by Dr. Yusuf Sununu, the Minister of State for Education.
He pointed out that the Federal Ministry of Education would be better able to monitor, assess, and enhance education quality assurance procedures and practices across the country if the Federal Education Quality Assurance Service Department was automated and a cloud server was set up.
On behalf of the Director of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Abubakar Isa, Sununu stated that the FEQAS Department’s operations would undergo a revolutionary change thanks to the cloud server.
“Improve data collection and management, optimize workflows and increase productivity, foster networking, cooperation, and effective reporting; guarantee scalability and flexibility; and reinforce security and data protection.”
Automation of the system is necessary since manual school quality assurance evaluation and reporting is prone to delays and human mistake, according to Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).
Bobboyi revealed that in order to encourage flexibility, accuracy, prompt reporting, and a decrease in human error, the Commission implemented digital technology for the school quality assurance evaluation tasks.
The Commission, in collaboration with the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), developed “UBEC Collect,” a tool utilized by Quality Assurance Officers within the Commission, State Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEBs), and Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAS). Officers are able to carry out their duties more effectively and give stakeholders and schools feedback on time thanks to this innovation. The extension of the facility to the Federal Quality Assurance Services (FEQAS) in the interest of national educational growth has been stimulated by the influence of technological intervention in school quality assurance evaluation. For the goals of diagnosis, evaluation, and remediation, quality assurance evaluation is crucial in primary education. This technology has also allowed for more accurate data collection and analysis, leading to better decision-making processes in education policy. By incorporating technological advancements into quality assurance evaluation, the education sector can strive towards continuous improvement and excellence in primary education.
With the commencement of the program, Federal Education Quality Assurance Services (FEQAS) and UBEC Quality Assurance Officers (QAOs) will now be working together to achieve a unified aim in monitoring and evaluating schools, according to Mrs. Helen Okoro, Director of Quality Assurance at UBEC.
“The goal of using the digital tablet for school evaluation is to make the work of the field officers easier so that every aspect of the whole school evaluation is covered efficiently and without any problems,” the spokesperson stated.
