TINUBU RETURNS TO ABUJA FROM CHINA TODAY, FOLLOWING A STOPOVER IN LONDON

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu will return to Abuja after a visit to China and a brief stay in the UK. He left Abuja for Beijing on August 29 and began his visit on September 2, where he met with President Xi Jinping in the Great Hall of the People. Tinubu was warmly received and a guard of honor was mounted for his inspection. During the meeting, five Memoranda of Understanding were signed between Nigeria and China. Tinubu also held another round of bilateral talks with Chinese Premier Li Qiang.

He said that on the eve of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation meeting, Mr. Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan, hosted Mr. Tinubu at the Welcoming Banquet and Cultural Gala Performance.

The cooperation plan between Nigeria and China is one of the MOUs that was signed.

According to him, this was done to support the Global Development Initiative’s human resource development collaboration, the Belt and Road Initiative, and the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

The others focus on the cooperation and exchange of media between the Nigerian Television Authority and the China Media Group.

He added that Nigeria and China Harbour Engineering Company had inked a Memorandum of Understanding for the construction of the 68-kilometer Lagos Green rail line, which would connect to the Blue Line and extend from the Lekki Free Zone to the Marina.

“A memorandum of understanding for the one billion dollar iron ore-to-steel project planned for Kogi State was also signed between Chart and Capstone Integrated Limited of Nigeria and Sinomach-He of China,” the presidential assistant stated in a statement. President Tinubu visited China Harbour Engineering Company and Huawei prior to attending the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation inauguration in Beijing.

As the chairman of ECOWAS, President Tinubu spoke at the FOCAC on global peace, emphasizing the need of cooperation and multilateralism as necessary components of world peace.

He said that a meeting between Mr. Tinubu and leaders of Nigerians in the Diaspora Organization, China chapter, concluded his tour to China.

Mr. Onanuga said, “During which he discussed the need for the reforms his government was putting into place in Nigeria and expressed hope that they would bring the nation to a place where it would have good roads, reliable electricity, and top-notch schools, similar to China. After departing Beijing, President Tinubu spent a few days in London. He spoke with King Charles III on Thursday about issues pertaining to climate change and taking action.
