The National Examinations Council has announced the June/July 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination results, which total 60.55 percent of candidates received five or more credits in math and English.

The Registrar of NECO, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, disclosed this while addressing journalists at the NECO headquarters on Thursday in Minna, Niger.

Mr Wushishi said that a total of 1,376,423 candidates, representing 706,950 males and 669,473 females, registered for the exam.

The registrar said that 1,367,736 candidates sat for the examination,   representing 702,112 males and 665,624 females.

He said that 828, 284 candidates had five credits and above, including English and Mathematics, representing 60.55 per cent.

Mr. Wushishi reported that 1,147,597 candidates, or 83.90 percent, had five credits or more, regardless of their proficiency in English and mathematics.

In comparison to 2023, he said that there was a significant decrease in the amount of examination malpractices this year.

“There was a decrease of 30.1 percent in the number of candidates engaged in various forms of malpractice in 2024 compared to 12,030 in 2023,” he said.

However, the registrar reported that widespread exam-taking cheating was discovered in 40 schools.

He continued, “40 schools were discovered to have engaged in entire school (mass) cheating in 17 states during the administration of the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination. The relevant punishments will be implemented after they are invited to the council for a debate.

Due to widespread cheating in two core subjects and one science subject, it was suggested that an Ekiti State school be decertified. In a similar vein, 12 states proposed the blacklisting of 21 supervisors for incompetence, intoxication, absconding, extortion, and inadequate supervision.

He advised test takers to go to the NECO website in order to view their results.

According to Mr. Wushishi, candidates can use their examination registration number to view their results on the NECO website, www.neco.gov.ng.
