Tuesday, October 1, 2024 has been proclaimed a national holiday by the Nigerian government in observance of the country’s 64th anniversary of independence.

Tunji-Ojo commended Nigerians on their achievement both domestically and internationally, praising the perseverance and hard work of Nigerian men and women and assuring them that their sacrifices will not go unappreciated.
Reiterating that “a Nigeria of our dream can only be built when we unite,” he urged Nigerians to think back on the “labour of our heroes past and be inspired for the tasks ahead.”
Tunji-Ojo wished Nigerians a happy anniversary of Independence Day and asked them to stay strong in their nation-building efforts.
Nigerians have already set October 1st as the date of the countrywide mass protest, #FearlessInOctober, against the government of President Bola Tinubu because of the government’s anti-poor policies and the country’s increasing hardship.
