Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has announced a 30-day National Youth Conference to empower young Nigerians and harness their creative energy for a better future. The conference will address challenges and opportunities faced by young people, focusing on education, employment, innovation, security, and social justice. With over 60% of the population being youths, Tinubu emphasized that they will be at the forefront of shaping policies that impact their lives. The government will thoroughly consider the conference’s outcomes and recommendations. In addition, the President’s administration is implementing youth-centric programs, such as the 3 Million Technical Talents Programme and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund.
Additionally, he said that starting this month, the government will begin The Renewed Hope Labour Employment and Empowerment Programme (LEEP), which aims to create 2.5 million jobs annually while guaranteeing the welfare and safety of workers.
“As we work to overcome the challenges of the day, we remain mindful of the next generation as we seek to galvanize their creative energy towards a better future. We guide our actions today with an eye on the future we want to leave for our kids, understanding that we cannot create a future they own without involving them as its creators.
In light of this, I’m happy to announce that a National Youth Conference will be held. The purpose of this conference is to provide a forum for discussing the various opportunities and problems that our youth, who make up more than than 60 per cent of our population.
It will start important conversations and provide our youth the tools they need to actively contribute to the development of our country. We are paving the way for a better tomorrow by making sure that their opinions are heard when developing the laws that affect their daily life.
“Young people around the country will come together for the 30-day Confab to work together to propose answers to problems including social justice, employment, innovation, education, and security. Our young people, through their representatives, will be closely involved in the formulation of this Confab’s procedures and delegate selection.
It will be our responsibility as conference organizers to make sure that their goals are central to the discussions during this confab. As we continue to be steadfast in our aim to create a more inclusive, prosperous, and unified Nigeria, the government will carefully evaluate and put into practice the suggestions and conclusions from this event.
To give our young people an advantage in a world that is changing quickly, our government is implementing several other youth-centric programs.” In order to strengthen Nigeria’s pool of technical talent, we are executing many initiatives, including the Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy’s 3 Million Technical Talents program (3MTT).
The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which offers our students low-interest loans to achieve their postsecondary educational goals, has also been introduced with great enthusiasm. Furthermore, we will be introducing The Renewed Hope Labour Employment and Empowerment Programme (LEEP) later this month.
It is designed as an all-inclusive set of measures for job generation by the Federal Ministry of Labor and Employment with the objective of promoting the direct and indirect creation of 2.5 million jobs annually while concurrently guaranteeing the well-being and security of laborers throughout the nation,” stated the President.
The program aims to address the issue of unemployment and underemployment in Nigeria by providing opportunities for job creation and empowerment. President Buhari emphasized the importance of LEEP in contributing to economic growth and stability in the country.
