Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has been summoned by the Federal Capital Territory High Court for his arraignment on October 24, 2024. Bello, along with co-defendants Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, is facing 16 new charges by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. He has already been declared wanted. Bello is also facing 19 other charges.

The EFCC applied for the summons after claiming that it was unable to serve Bello with the additional charges that were submitted on September 24.

Bello and his co-defendants allegedly stole money that was entrusted to them, according to the EFCC. The charges against Bello and his co-defendants include criminal conspiracy, theft, and abuse of office. The EFCC is seeking to ensure that justice is served in this case.

In her order, Justice Anenih directed the EFCC to print the public summons in a widely circulated newspaper and to paste copies of the summons at Bello’s last known address and at visible spots within the court premises.

Bello was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday to be arraigned on the new accusations, but the proceedings were again delayed by his nonattendance.

The EFCC has been relentless in its pursuit of justice for the alleged fraud committed by Bello. Despite the delays in court proceedings, the agency remains committed to ensuring that those accused of corruption are held accountable for their actions.
