The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for a reduction in petrol prices and urged the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government to invest in food production and revamp the manufacturing sector to stimulate employment and alleviate people’s suffering. The party’s Board of Trustees Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, issued a communiqué after the party’s 78th meeting in Abuja, expressing concerns over the worsening economic hardship, food crisis, and general sense of misery due to the APC administration’s anti-people policies.

The BoT urges that the APC administration evaluate its policies right away and act quickly to guarantee a decrease in fuel prices.

The BoT added in the release that the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on October 24 will either strengthen or weaken the party’s commitment to deal with numerous internal issues and start planning for the general elections in 2027.

The communiqué also emphasized the belief that it is now imperative for all party members to confront current problems and plan for the future.

Senator Wabara emphasized the importance of resolving internal conflicts within the PDP, stating that a divided house cannot stand. He highlighted the need for unity and diplomacy in addressing disputes within the party. He also highlighted the recent ward, local government, and state congresses, which were supposed to resolve leadership issues, as they have become a source of concern due to alleged manipulations. The Board of Trustees has received reports that these congresses were not conducted in full accordance with PDP guidelines, and some even did not hold as scheduled. Wabara called on the National Working Committee to resolve these issues and ensure all party members have a fair and transparent opportunity to participate in the democratic process. He called for correction of any deviations from PDP guidelines and the scheduling of new congresses to ensure fair participation.

The governor of Rivers state, Siminalayi Fubara, the chairman of the PDP Board of Governors, Governor Bala Mohammed, and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike were among the people the board met with to address serious intra-party conflicts. Wabara emphasized the board’s commitment to resolving these issues and promoting unity among the leadership.
