GOVERNOR LAWAL VISITS ZAMFARA CORRECTIONAL CENTER, PARDONS 31 INMATES

Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, released a total of (31) inmates who are serving their various jail terms at the Nigerian Correctional Service facility in Gusau, the state capital.

The development emerged when the Governor paid a working visit to the medium correctional center where he pardoned the inmates.

He initiated the pardon after careful investigation into their case records and the Constitution has empowered the Governor to reduce sentences and initiate pardon into inmate with considerable cases.

He says he initiated the pardon to encourage their transformation to become law-abiding citizens.

“Today, I am exercising the power vested on me by Section 212(1) of Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution to shower mercy to inmates with considerable cases with a view to alleviate their sufferings.

“Furthermore, I have approved a gift of N50,000 to each pardoned inmate to support their reintegration into the society.

“This is an effort by my administration to reduce the overcrowding condition of the correctional facility in Gusau”.

The Governor later inspected the correctional facility where he promised to provide all necessary assistance to enhance the living condition of the inmates.

The Comptroller of Correctional Services in Zamfara Earlier, Dr. Umar Galadima commended the Governor for his visit as well as his decision to grant pardon to the inmates.
