A committee has been established by the Kebbi State Government to retrieve cash that was wrongfully taken from the individual accounts of orphans from the N2.1 billion in funds that the World Muslim League distributed.
The committee will work diligently to ensure that the stolen funds are returned to the rightful beneficiaries. This initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to upholding justice and protecting vulnerable members of society.
On October 10, the League sent a bank payment totaling N2.1 billion to 1,849 orphans in the state to help in their upbringing.
It was discovered that several guardians who were given the responsibility of handling the funds committed fraud by defrauding the people entrusted to their care.
The state governor, Nasir Idris, has ordered the quick recovery of the money in full and restoration of it to its rightful owners, according to Commissioner for Religious Affairs Muhammad Sani-Aliyu, who briefed journalists on the developments in Birnin Kebbi on Friday.
“The governor is up to the task; he has a high compassion for orphans,” he declared. As a result, he gave the committee instructions to take the necessary steps to guarantee a comprehensive inquiry. When we got in touch with the institutions that distributed the money, they told us that Point of Sale terminals—rather than traditional banking channels—were used to carry out the fraudulent activities.
We are, however, issuing a warning: should it be discovered that a bank has been involved in the removal of cash intended for orphans, the government will formally submit a letter of complaint against that bank and forward it to the bank’s headquarters for necessary action.
Mr. Sani-Aliyu pledged that the current government would not stand by and watch while certain dishonest protectors of the weak would take advantage of the helpless.
The commissioner stated: “The World Muslim League’s generosity and the enormous sum of money it gave to the state’s orphans are much appreciated by the Kebbi State Government. After learning about the events in Kebbi State, the League’s regional office in Kaduna, Nigeria, promised to fully assist with the monies’ recovery attempts. Along with two other commissioners, two special advisers, and two permanent secretaries, I lead the recovery committee.
Our goal is to ensure that justice is served and the funds meant for the orphans are returned to them. We are committed to holding those responsible accountable for their actions.
