The Faculty of Humanities Federal University Gusau has organized a 2-Days National Conference on Security with the theme “Re-thinking Security through the Lenses of Humanities”.
The Conference was declared open on Saturday the 2nd day of November 2024 by the Secretary to Zamfara State Government Mal. Abubakar Nakwada on behalf of the Government of Zamfara state.
The SSG who was represented at the event by Permanent Secretary Cabinet Affairs Dr. Lawal Hussaini commended the faculty and indeed the University for bringing on board topical issue regarding security particularly banditry and urged the conference participants to come up with the appropriate suggestions that will help end the lingering security challenges facing the region.
Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Muazu Abubakar Gusau was represented at the even by the Sean of Students Affairs Dr. Lawal Sa”ad where he passed a commendation on the faculty for organizing the conference especially considering how delicate the security situation affecting Nigerian state has become.
He assured that the University will continue to support academic initiatives of this nature as part of its contribution to the development of the humanity.
The lead paper presenter Prof. Atiku Garba Yahaya who was a former Deputy Vice Chancellor of the Usmanu Danfodio University and a Professor of Islamic history delivered the lead conference paper with the title “The limits of Human Nature: Islamic principles of Governance as Catalyst to Violent Armed Banditry in North-West Nigeria”.
Yahaya who dwelled much on the Islamic perspectives of armed banditry emphasized the need for societies to refer to the fundamentals of the Islamic values as the panacea to solving the security challenges faced by the country.
The Special Guest of honor at the event and member representing Maru/Bungudu at the Federal House of Reps Abdulmalik Zannan Bungudu who delivered a goodwill message through his representative Ibrahim Dan Madamin Birnin Magaji commended the effort of the faculty and University management for choosing the topic which he described as timely.
He assured that he will continue to support the Federal University Gusau especially in such initiative which will continue to impact positively on solving societal problems.
The conference drew participants from across various states and universities of the highest learning in the country.
