Arrangements have been concluded by Katsina state government to begin the rehabilitation of the members of armed bandit groups that recently surrendered their arms for peace.
The government says it will open classrooms for the repentant bandits, even as small skills acquisition programs have been integrated into the rehabilitation scheme.
When the rehabilitation programs are completed, the repentant bandits are to be reintegrated back to the larger society.
The Directorate of Adult Education Katsina state is to take charge of the program and also to provide modalities on how the programme is to be run.
Also in the rehabilitation programme they would be enlightened on the danger of killing innocent souls in the name of armed banditry.
The Directorate of Adult Education made this development known to the BBC Hausa service on Tuesday.
Barr. Audu Bulama Bukarti is of the view that strategies like this may not likely succeed if the victims of the armed banditry attacks are not well taken care of by the government.
Bulama said, the government needs to take measures to ensuring that the repentant bandits have not resumed, especially based on previous experience in the North-West where repentant bandits who accepted peace offer returned to the forests and continue with their criminal activities.
