Zamfara State Commissioner for Finance Rabiu Garba has raised alarm by putting countries like United States, United Kingdom and United Arab Emirates on alert over missing 10.8 billion naira belonging to Zamfara State government.
Mr. Rabiu Garba who raised the alarm at a media briefing in Gusau the state capital on Tuesday said, the 10.8 billion naira in question was part of the refund made to Zamfara State over some federal roads constructed by the immediate past administration of former Governor Yari.
He said the record has shown that the money was used in the payment of contractors handling various works at the State University Talatar Mafara but noting that, such amount of money was never used for that purpose.
He instead alleged that, the money was siphoned by the officials of the immediate past administration hence the University permanent site is still shrouded by uncompleted buildings and other structures.
He urged the United States, United Kingdom and United Arabs Emirate to support Zamfara people by digging deep to find out where the money was saved in their own countries and return them to the state for other purposes.
He called on the Federal Government to go after those culprits responsible for the looting of the money and bring them to justice.
He also called on all the concern stakeholders to stand by the government of Zamfara by advocating the need for these countries to return the stolen billions back to the treasury of Zamfara if they are detected.
