Zamfara State Governor has disbursed contract notifications for the construction of a total of 423 class rooms across fourteen local government areas of the state.
In a statement by Director General Public Enlightenment, Media and Communication to the Governor Malam Yusuf Idris Gusau, noted that, the contracts were awarded to the home based contractors to enhance their economic capacity.
He noted that, since inception of this administration in May 29th 2019 the Governor has declared state of emergency on education sector especially basic education.
Idris explained further that, the administration of Bello Matawalle will continue to support every step that is meant to revive education in the state adding that, the governor has fullfiled his pledge of releasing all the matching grant due for Zamfara State.
He said the governor used the ocassion to remind the contractors of the existing policy of purchasing contract materials from the local base contractors as well as engaging home based labourers to enhance employment opportunities and that his administration will continue to enforce that.
Earlier in his address, the State Chairman of ZSUBEB Abubakar Aliyu Maradun said the 423 classrooms project is under the 2019 matching grant of 3.1 billion naira and that apart from the construction of of the new classrooms, there will be renovation of 148 existing structures, 19 boreholes with overhead water tanks, fencing of 20 schools, 57 cells VIP toilets and 3 units of VIP latrines.
The Chairman further explained that, over 900 classrooms were constructed and 375 dilapidated classrooms were renovated in the state.
