The Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice of Zamfara state, Barr. Nura Ibrahim Zarumi has said that last Thursday’s declaration of a ‘vote of no confidence’ on the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno by the state’s House of Assembly was inappropriate as the law makers had overstepped their bounds.
Zarumi who spoke to Thunder Blowers Online news medium on sundry issues including the abduction and release of GGSS, Jangebe girls and the assembly’s declaration on the NSA noted that although the state legislators may have their reason for the declaration, in legal fields, they were not in position to do that.
He said the NSA who is a federal government appointee is only answerable to his employer who can querry or sack him if he goes contrary to his assigned responsibilities.
He however questioned why the federal government suddenly slammed down a no fly zone on Zamfara which is the only PDP controlled and most latest state where students were abducted and that this will continue to make it difficult to remove politics from what is happening since there have been security challenges and students abduction in Borno, Yobe, Katsina and Niger which are all under APC governments with no such marching order.
While speaking on Governor Bello Matawalle’s insistance on his administration’s peace and dialogue initiative with bandits as a way of bringing lasting peace in Zamfara, Barr. Zarumi explained that the governor has never said the peace and dialogue was the only solution and that if the federal government can guarantee immediate face-off with the criminals and clear the bushes and all bandits’ camps, the government and people of the state will welcome and fully support the idea.
He cautioned critics of the Matawalle-led government in the state against speculations that money exchanged hands in order to secure the release of the Jangebe girls noting that what had been more important and of concern to Nigerians and people around the globe was the safe and unharmed return return of the victims.
He further said, the peace initiative in the state had played a significant role in the quick, safe and unharmed release of the Jangebe girls adding that it is the peaceful dialogue with the bandits that made it possible for all Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state to return to their respective homes in all parts of the state.
The Attorney-General who commended the Sheik Ahmed Gummi team in going round bandits’ camps and sensitizing them on the need to lay off arms said the cleric’s engagement with the men of the underworld in Zamfara was easier and more fruitful since many of the bandits were on their way to denouncing crime through the peace initiative.
