There was a serious panic on Wednesday afternoon at Wanke weekly market in Zamfara state when some members of vigilante groups (Yansakai) invaded the market and brutally murdered three members of the fulani ethnic groups.
An eyewitness who was at the market but does not want to be named told this medium that, some members of the vigilante groups came to the market around 1:00pm, picked a suspected Fulani bandit and gruesomely murdered him in the open market.
While that action lasted, another set of vigilante group came and pick another two suspected fulani herdsmen and murdered them again.
He said what caused panic in the market was that the rest of the fulani herdsmen around the scene of the incident re-united at the outskirts of the market and begin to make suspecious phone calls.
According to him the phone calls scared many people in the market who suspected that the Fulani were remobilizing bandits for re-enforcement.
He said by 2;30pm, the market was completely deserted as many traders packed their belongings and hurriedly left the town.
He also confirmed that the soldiers attached to Magami also came and asked every one to leave and even begins shooting on the air.
