Zamfara State Police Command said, the violent protest which was staged along Gusau-Kaura Namoda highway in Zamfara on Monday was sponsored by some conflict entrepreneurs who are enemies of peace in Zamfara state.
State Police Commissioner Hussaini Rabiu who declared this at the official parading of some suspected organizers of the protest said the protesting youths who were armed with dangerous weapons blocked the entry roads and* embarked on unwanted destruction of public properties
He said the perpetrators of the protest were mostly from Kurya Madaro and Maguru district of Kaura Namoda emirate noting that the mission was to undermine the effort of the security agencies and state government in tackling security challenges confronting the state.
“Despite the presence of security operatives coupled with their efforts to persuade the rioters to disperse back to their respective homes peacefully without using force, the rioters turned down the security operatives and even attempted to attack them”
“Our security operatives, being professionally trained to handle this kind of situation, eventually dispersed them and restored normalcy without losing any life from both sides”.
The Police Commissioner said, fifteen (15) suspects who took part in the riot were arrested at the scene, and they were in possession of four locally made fabricated guns, one cutlass, one catapult, three plugs used for the locally made guns, rolls of charms and six operational motorcycles.
“Gentlemen of the press, it is unfortunate that, instead of putting all hands on deck to support the Government and Security agencies to restore lasting peace and tranquility in the state, the conflict entrepreneurs are always sabotaging our efforts by sponsoring youths to become violent and unproductive in the society”.
“The youths who should have been in school pursuing their educational carrier in order to become good Future Leaders are being used to perpetrate violent activities in the state”.
The CP used the opportunity to pass a message of warning that security agencies under his watch would not take it lightly with anyone trying to disrupt the relative peace enjoyed by the people of the state.
He also called on the parent and guardians to take proper control of their children and guard them against any attempt by these conflict entrepreneurs to involve them into an act of criminality.
He assured that investigation has since commence using those arrested, noting that they would soon be arraign in court for prosecution.
