A student of Zamfara State School of Nursing and Midwifery, Umar Salisu died of suspected cholera ailment in the late hours of Thursday.
According to a confided source until his death Umar was a first year student of Community Nursing, and he died after he was rushed to Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital Gusau for medical consideration.
The source added that, one other student has been hospitalized, with scores of them complaining of abnormal stomach pain.
The circumstances led to the declaration of lecture free-day on Friday by the school authority, as more cases are likely to emerge.
When contacted, the Executive Director of the College Tukur Shehu said the incident occurred in one of the off campus and the student was rushed to Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital by the college authority but the deceased eventually died.
He told this medium that he immediately contacted the state ministry of health where team of public health experts was deployed to conduct clinical inspection of the hostel noting that, chlorine was administered in one of the local well suspected to have caused the problem in the hostel as well as conducted fumigation of the whole area.
He noted that, another delegation from the college was deployed to attend the funeral prayer of the deceased at Shinkafi as well as condoled the family, noting that normalcy has been restored.
