Governor Bello Matawalle has to be borrowing money worth over N600 million naira to be paying monthly salary to state civil servants.
Zamfara state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Barr. Junaidu Aminu Kaura who declared this while speaking on the autonomy of the judiciary said, the law said the remaining money collected as monthly allocation should be shared only when salary is paid noting that for now, the monthly allocation could not even be enough for payment of salary let alone having reserves or excesses for sharing.
Juniadu said, “for now judiciary has to allow for the old arrangement to continue since there is no reserve left for sharing, noting that unless the financial situation of the state improves the government could not do magic.
He added that, the state account is always reading in the negative, noting that if not because Matawalle is bold and serious person he can hardly pay monthly salary.
Citing examples to support his arguments Junaidu further said, for two years, Kogi state government has not been paying salary to civil servants and heaven did not fall explaining that because Governor Matawalle has the feeling and yearning of the state civil servants at heart he makes sure that civil servants’ salary is paid as at when due
