BBC Hausa service reported on Friday that the suspected armed bandits embarked on house-to-house search for rape despite large number of livestock they have rustled.

A source who spoke to BBC Hausa on condition of anonymity said he has gone to Tsafe General Hospital and saw nine of those women who were raped from Sullulubawa village, six others from Anguwar Tofa and three others from Makera village.

He said the women were raped in their matrimonial homes, while many others who fled from their respective communities are now roaming the street of Tsafe town.

“Majority of the villages in Tsafe local government have been under the rule of the bandits for sometimes” the source added.

When asked on the effort put in place by the security agencies to curtail the situation the source said, none of the security agents posted to Tsafe can fight the bandits headway and as such they terminate their activities within Tsafe town noting that even the bandits used to argue that, none of the security agents can confront them in the forest.

He said before the arrest of one of the fathers of the bandits, there used to be some cases of rape occasionally in many areas along Tsafe but noted that now the situation is becoming alarming.

An official from General Hospital Tsafe confirmed to BBC Hausa service that seven women have been brought to Tsafe General Hospital in connection with the rape case, but he said they were examined clinically and discharged.

SP Shehu Muhammad the Zamfara police Spokesperson said police are yet to receive information regarding the development in Tsafe but promised to confirm the situation as inquired.
