BILL TO IMPROVE THE LIVES OF PEOPLE WITH SPECIAL NEEDS: ZMHA ORGANIZES PUBLIC HEARING

Members of Zamfara State House of Assembly will continue to accord priority to enhancing the lives of disabled person in the state.

Speaker Zamfara State House of Assembly Nasiru Mu’azu Magarya gave the assurance when he declared open one-day public hearing on a bill seeking for prohibition of all sorts of discrimination against persons with disabilities organized by the house standing committee on women, children and social welfare.

The bill was sponsored by Hon. Salisu Usman Zurmi member representing Zurmi East who is also a member of people with special needs.

Members of Civil Society Organizations, religious groups, associations of people of with special needs and traditional rulers including the Emir of Zamfaran Anka and Chairman of the state council of chiefs attended the event.

At the opening ceremony, Speaker Magarya said while the house under his watch continue to work in accordance with international best practice, it would continue to enact laws that are meant to improve the lives of the people in accordance with religious injunctions.

He assured that, as soon as all other requirements for the passage of the bill are met the state house of assembly would not hesitate in passing the bill into law.

The Speaker commended the sponsor of the bill as well as members of the house standing committee on women, children, and social welfare for standing firm to ensure that the bill has reached this significant level of progress.

He also commended “Save the Children” for the moral and financial support in making sure that the bill has progressed to the present level.

The Speaker also assured that, the government of Bello Matawalle would continue to do it’s best to improve the welfare and well-being of the people with special needs.

Earlier speaking the chairman House Committee on Women children and social welfare Hon Kabiru Magaji Kwatarkwashi said organizing a public hearing will avail his committee the opportunity to take the bill to the door steps of the people with special needs and also give them a level playing ground to give their input on the proposed bill.

He assured all the relevant stakeholders that their contributions, and observations will definitely come to bear in the entire legislative process of the bill.
