The two gubernatorial aspirants of the People’s Democratic Party in Zamfara Engr. Ibrahim Shehu and Hafiz Nahuche had applied for the release of essential documents, including the report of the Independent National Electoral Commission on the fresh primary election conducted on Friday the 23rd of September 2022.
The application was sent to the National Chairman of the INEC Prof. Mahmud Yakub after the same request was refused at the state headquarters of the commission.
According to a copy of the acknowledged letter of request shared with this medium, counsel to the aspirants, Barr. Ibrahim Ali Esq. told INEC that in addition to the official report to be released by the INEC, his client are requesting for the release of list of delegates submitted to the INEC for the conduct of the fresh primaries by the PDP.
The paper also stated that, Engr. Ibrahim Shehu and Hafiz Nahuche are requesting for the release of the list of aspirants that contested the election as submitted by the PDP.
They also requested for the release of the names of the members of the committee that conducted the primary election as submitted to the INEC by the PDP as well as evidence of the notice issued to the INEC by the PDP.
“Our Clients’ right to demand for the above documents is guaranteed by Section 1(2) & (3) of the Freedom of Information Act, 2011. Procession fees shall be paid to augment costs”.
Barr. Ibrahim Ali pointed in his application to the National Chairman of the INEC that, “same request was made to the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Zamfara State since the 23/9/2022 but one Balarabe refused to acknowledge same”.
