Stakeholders have expressed concern with the manner in which officials of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp in Zamfara have abandoned their only operative who was shot by the bandits along Bakura-Maradun borders early this month.
According to the source, six among the seven operatives of the NSCDC who were on patrol along Bakura-Maradun were shot dead by some suspected armed bandits while one other was badly wounded and admitted at the Male Surgical Ward of the Federal Medical Center Gusau.
The source who expressed concern with the manner in which the only surviving operative of the NSCDC was abandoned by the state officials said, the man who is currently on admission has to source for funds from relations to treat himself of the injury he secured.
“On the first day of admission he was asked to pay forty thousand naira for a single laboratory test and after consultation to source for the money one of his relations has to raise the funds for him”.
He lamented that, up to now not a single naira was issued to him as a support to the injured operative, a circumstance that made his relations to voice out for help.
The State Coordinator of National Human Right Commission Mr Abdullahi Abubakar said he has heard about the ugly development and visited the NSCDC operative to ascertain his condition.
He described the attitude of the officials of the NSCDC Zamfara as uncalled-for noting that if their operatives can put their lives on the line of duty and only for them to be neglected and abandoned then there is a big question to ask about the integrity of the service.
He called on the State Commandant to take the appropriate steps of aiding the families of those operatives who lost their lives and also assist the injured victim with the adequate financial support to enable him overcome his challenges.
He also called on the state government to initiate strategies that would provide unlimited access to health care management for the security operatives that are injured during encounter with the bandits.
