The Executive Director of Center for Community Excellence Adamu Abubakar Kwatarkwashi has informed this medium that few weeks back armed bandits invaded a district in Zurmi local government area of Zamfara State, abducted a district head, ward party Chairman and executives of a political party.
He said they were in captivity for over forty days and no one including the government could do anything to rescue them.
According to him the Jumuat imam of the community who delivered a sermon on behalf of the abductees was later attacked by the gunmen and was left with several injuries.
Kwatarkwashi cited this single scenario of Zurmi to demonstrate the extent at which bandits are threatening the lives of innocent people of Zamfara State without state government taking decisive measures to addressing their excesses.
He said it is no longer visible for the state government to continue to pretend that all is well when hundreds of thousands of its people are dying in silence.
He added that from Shinkafi to Zurmi, Birnin Magaji Maradun and substantial part of Dansadau area no day would come and pass without one or more persons abducted by the armed bandits.
He described the peace accord as not only failure but a ground for the bandits to be developing new strategies that would make the security situation more complex adding that the situation in Zamfara is turning out to be worst than when this government has taken over mantle of b leadership.
He explained that it is high time for the state government to engage critical stakeholders and develop strategies that would be used to addressing the challenges before they became out of hand.
“You cannot continue to be doing one thing and be getting same result especially on matters related to security and yet the government has folded its arm till the problem consume of all the people of the state”.
Kwatarkwashi featured in Thunder Blower’s TV show Tiryan Tiryan on Friday alongside state coordinator of National Human Right Commission Abdullahi Abubakar.
