The Independent National Electoral Commission has assured that despite some record of cases of attacks on some communities in Zamfara 2023 election will proceed as scheduled.
Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC Prof. Saidu Babura Ahmad who stated this in an exclusive interview with the Thunder Blowers on Thursday insisted that the security threat caused by the acts of armed bandits shall not be seen as something that will possibly affect the conduct of the 2023 election as scheduled in Zamfara state.
He noted that, even last week Tuesday he had a meeting with all the security heads in the state and Zamfara INEC office was fully briefed about the security situation faced by the state and even though some areas are still facing the threat of the armed bandits it was visibly clear that it will not affect the arrangement for the conduct of the 2023 polls.
“We had meeting with the security agencies here in INEC office Gusau last week Tuesday and the police gave us the security indicators and like you have pointed, there is significant improvement around fight against banditry in Zamfara but that does not mean some areas are not without challenges”.
“According to the data by the police there are area that still have up to 50% some 60% of the security incidents and that we will continue to monitor the development and act accordingly, but we are optimistic that the development may not have any implication for the scheduled election” Prof Babura added.
